Following EU Directive 89/106 on construction products, in 2006 the UNI EN 14351-1 product standard was published. The standard, which includes other standards regarding the tests to be carried out to determine performance levels, obliges the manufacturer to provide data relating to the tests of water tightness, wind resistance, sound insulation, thermal insulation and air permeability. The manufacturer is given the opportunity to also voluntarily highlight the services related to Mechanical resistance, Bullet resistance, Explosion resistance, Durability or Resistance to burglary (in particular depending on the intended use).

The standards are identified by an alphanumeric code which highlights the type of standard with national value (IT for Italy), European value (EN for Europe) and international value (ISO for international standard organization) and the number of the standard itself at the time of publication. The combination of two suffixes, e.g. UNI EN, indicates the European value in Italian and therefore corresponds to the official Italian translation from the original text. These standards have a counterpart for each European country e.g. UNI DIN for Germany. The standards that add the suffix V, are experimental and indicate the voluntary application by the manufacturer in reference to the directive and therefore the non-mandatory (ENV voluntary European standard).

The provisions indicated herein and provided for by the Community directives completely replace and cancel any previous national provisions (whether Italian or from another European country).

  • UNI ENV 1629 : 2000 - Windows, doors, blackout blind - Resistance to break-in - Test method for determination of resistance under dynamic load. This standard is the official version of the European standard EN 14351-1 (March 2006 edition). The standard specifies the performance characteristics of windows, external pedestrian doors, double and coupled windows and doors. This experimental standard is the Italian language version of the European experimental standard ENV 1629 (January 1999 edition). The experimental standard specifies a test method for determining the resistance to manual loading in order to evaluate the resistance characteristics to break-in of doors, windows and shutters.
  • UNI ENV 1630 : 2000 - Windows, doors, blackout blind - Resistance to burglary - Test method for determining the resistance to manual burglary action.
This experimental standard is the Italian language version of the European experimental standard ENV 1630 (January 1999 edition). The experimental standard specifies a test method for the determination of resistance to manual burglary in order to evaluate the characteristics of resistance to burglary of doors, windows and shutters.

Wind resistance - UNI EN 12211 - UNI EN 12210

  • UNI EN 12211:2001 - Windows and doors - Resistance to wind load - Test methodThis standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN 12211 (June 2000 edition). The standard defines the test method for determining wind resistance for windows and doors made of any material.
  • UNI EN 12210:2000 - Windows and doors - Resistance to wind load – Classification This standard is the official Italian language version of the European standard EN 12210 (November 1999 edition) and takes into account the August 2002 corrigendum (AC:2002). The standard defines the classification of the test results of windows and doors, made of any material and undergoing the wind load resistance test.

Watertightness - UNI EN 1027 - UNI EN 12208

  • UNI EN 1027:2001 - Windows and doors - Watertightness - Test method This standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN 1027 (June 2000 edition). The standard defines the method to be used to determine the water tightness of doors and windows of any material and completely assembled.
  • UNI EN 12208:2000 - Windows and doors - Watertightness – Classification This standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN 12211 (June 2000 edition). The standard defines the test method for determining wind resistance for doors and windows made of any material.

Permeability to air - UNI EN 1026 - UNI EN 12207

  • UNI EN 1026:2001 - Windows and doors - Air permeability - Test method - This standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN 1026 (June 2000 edition). The standard describes the conventional method to be used to determine the air permeability of doors and windows, made of any material and fully assembled, when tested under positive or negative pressure.
  • UNI EN 12207:2000 - Windows and doors - Air permeability – Classification - This standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN 12207 (November 1999 edition). The standard defines the classification of the test results of windows and doors, made of any material and undergoing the air permeability test.

Thermal transmittance - UNI EN ISO 10077/1

  • UNI EN ISO 10077-1:2007 - Thermal performance of windows, doors and shutters - Calculation of thermal transmittance - Part 1: General - This standard is the official English version of the European standard EN ISO 10077-1 (September 2006 edition). The standard specifies the methods for calculating the thermal transmittance of windows and doors made up of opaque glass or panels inserted into frames with or without blackout closures. It applies to: - different types of glazing (glass or plastic, single or multiple glazing, with or without low emissivity coatings, with air or other gas-filled cavities); - different types of frames (wood, plastic, metal with or without thermal break, metal with point connections or any other combination of materials); - where appropriate, the additional thermal resistance due to different types of blinds, depending on their air permeability.

Acoustics - UNI EN ISO 717-1:2007 - UNI/TR 11175:2005

  • UNI EN ISO 10077-1:2007 - Acoustics - Assessment of sound insulation of buildings and building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation. - This standard is the official Italian version of the European standard EN ISO 717-1 (December 1996 edition) and of the update A1 (August 2006 edition). The standard defines the parameter evaluation indices for the airborne sound insulation of buildings and building elements, takes into consideration the different sound level spectra of various noise sources such as noise sources inside a building and traffic outside a building, prescribes rules to determine these parameters based on the results of measurements carried out in third of octave or octave bands in accordance with UNI EN ISO 140 parts 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10. The update completes the information on data rounding off to eliminate possible different interpretations, especially when they are translated into calculation software.

The acoustic performance of a building is expressed in terms of insulation, transmission and absorption of noise as well as sound levels and powers. The technical report applies to homes consisting of apartments in multi-storey buildings and any other situation easily referable to them.
